What is the Russell 2000 Stock Index?
The Russell 2000 Stock Index is a stock index published
by the Frank Russell Company which includes the
smallest 2000 stocks in the Russell 3000 index.

The Russell 3000 includes the largest 3000 US stocks.

Size is determined by
market cap rather than net
income, asset value or some other measure.

Since the Russell 2000 index excludes the largest 1000
stocks of the Russell 3000 index, it is considered a
benchmark for small cap stocks as well as for small cap
mutual funds.
